CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb senior infielder Collin Thacker has been named the Big South Conference Baseball Co-Player of the Week for games played March 20-26, as announced today by the Conference office.
Thacker (Wilmington, N.C. / New Hanover H.S.) finished 11-for-18 (.611) at the plate with seven RBI and four runs scored in a pair of wins this past week. The infielder opened the four-game stretch with a 4-for-6 effort headlined by a three-run home run that helped the Runnin' Bulldogs to a 15-13 non-conference win at Western Carolina on Wednesday evening. For the weekend, he was 7-for-12 (.583) with three doubles, three RBI and three runs scored in a three-game home set with Campbell.
Thacker shares Big South Player of the Week honors with Radford's Jonathan Gonzalez.
Thacker is enjoying a productive season thus far for the Runnin' Bulldogs, leading the team in batting average (.368), hits (35), doubles (nine), and RBI (23). He currently ranks in the top-five statistically among all Big South players in hits, RBI, and doubles.
Gardner-Webb (11-14, 1-2 Big South) will be in action at USC Upstate on Wednesday evening at 6:00 pm before resuming Big South play this weekend at High Point, with the first game of a three-game series taking place Friday evening at 6:00 pm.
