Men's Golf Finishes Ninth At 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – Gardner-Webb finished ninth Monday afternoon at the 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Championships men's golf tournament, hosted by the University of Georgia.

The event was played at the 6,917-yard Athens Country Club (Par 72) and featured 15 teams. Both rounds were played Monday.

The Runnin' Bulldogs finished five strokes in front of Furman and three strokes behind Western Carolina in the team standings. GWU sat in seventh after the first round, firing a 293 – and shot a 298 over the final 18 holes of the day.

Jonathan Henry finished in a tie for sixth, carding back-to-back rounds of 70 to finish 4-under par for the day. Henry finished just three strokes back of first place individually in a steady showing.

Chris Jones (72-77-149) finished tied for 41st, Steffen Smith (77-75-152) and Jake Kennedy (76-76-152) finished tied for 52nd and Aaron Thomas (75-80-155) tied for 61st.

Lipscomb placed three individuals in the top-10 and won the event by three strokes over Florida State. Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kennesaw State rounded out the top five team scores.

Up next for the Runnin' Bulldogs is a short trip to Greenville, S.C., for the 2017 Furman Intercollegiate (March 24-26).
