HIGH POINT, N.C. – Gardner-Webb played its first overtime match of the season Saturday night, finishing a 1-1 draw at High Point.

Brian Stepanek scored his first goal of the season to give Gardner-Webb (3-11-1, 1-5-1 Big South) an early lead, but High Point tied it up at the 53:49 mark. Neither team could find the back of the net the rest of the way.

Stepanek keyed in on a defensive miscue, as he found the back of the net off a deflected cross for his first collegiate goal – giving the Runnin' Bulldogs a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the match.

Gardner-Webb held strong and negated six corner kicks by High Point and kept the game 1-0 in their favor.

High Point eventually tied the match up in the 54th minute. Ryan Inman placed a perfect pass between the defense that Johnny Fenwick was to place past a diving keeper.

The Runnin' Bulldogs had a chance to seal the deal with 40 seconds left, as Severin Soerlie found his way around the defense, and struck the ball from just outside the 18-yard box that forced the keeper to make the save – sending the match into overtime.

In the first overtime, both teams combined for six shots (one on goal) and two yellow cards (one on each team).

Magnus Moldjord had a header saved with 24 ticks left on the clock that could've been the difference and given Gardner-Webb the victory, but the High Point defense prevailed and forced a second overtime.

The Runnin' Bulldogs tried to end the match just seven seconds into the second overtime, as Ali Al-Gashamy fired a shot from midfield that sailed high over the goal.

Another Panthers' chance came with less than four minutes left in the match as Jon Bolanos forced the hand of the keeper and make a crucial save. Bolanos had a one-on-one and tried to place the ball in the bottom left corner of the net, but Swan made the save.

Gardner-Webb was led by Stepanek (two shots, one on frame), who had the lone goal for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Moldjord, Al-Gashamy and David Koloko each contributed two shots a piece. High Point was led by Fenwick with the lone goal for the Panthers, while Bolanos and Bana Ganidekam each had five shots.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to the pitch on Wednesday, November 2, as they host the Blue Hose of Presbyterian on senior night. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
