BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb picked up four key wins in singles action Saturday afternoon to rally for a 4-3 win over Liberty in a crucial men's tennis match on its home courts.
"We had good energy after losing the doubles point today and we really came to play in singles," said head coach Mike Griffith. "I'm very proud of the guys and our team. This was a very good win for us."
The Runnin' Bulldogs (8-10, 3-1 Big South) fell behind after the doubles point, as the Flames took wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to go up 1-0.

Breno Plentz rolled to a 6-1 win in his first set at No. 3 singles, but saw Diego Castano rally for a 6-3 win in the second. Plentz regrouped and captured a 6-1 win to give Gardner-Webb a commanding 3-1 lead with three matches still underway.
The Flames rallied with a win at No. 2 singles from Chase Burton, but freshman standout Ross Gilbert came through again at No. 5 singles, beating Max Borcuti in a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 victory to seal the team win.
