Gardner-Webb Men’s And Women’s Swimming Named To CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams

CSCAA Official Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Co.- The Gardner-Webb men's and women's swim teams were honored for academic excellence, earning the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team Award.

The CSCAA recently announced its Scholar All-America Team, which were received by 658 teams, representing 388 colleges and Universities, covering NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA.

To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a grade point average of 3.00 or higher over the Spring semester.

The Gardner-Webb women's team compiled a 3.56 cumulative team GPA, while the men's squad posted a 3.26 GPA.  The Runnin' Bulldogs were one of five Coastal Collegiate Sports Associations teams to appear on the Scholar All-America list.

Since being charged to lead the GWU women's swim team in 1999 and the men's team in 2007, Gardner-Webb head swim coach Mike Simpson continues to make academics of utmost importance – and his teams have continued to display the fruits of that focus.

The women's swim team has posted a 3.0 GPA every year since 1999, and the same rings true for the men's team since the program was started during the 2007-08 season.
