SAVANNAH, Ga. – Gardner-Webb women's swimming got off to a rousing start to the 2016-2017 season Friday afternoon, taking a 139-66 win at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD).

The meet was originally scheduled for October 7, but was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew.

"Our women dominated from the beginning," said head coach Mike Simpson. "We won both relays and team depth showed throughout the day. Our spirit and energy were great for the first meet. Tessa Walsh and Spencer Lucas won their first career college events and Lili Toth was dominant in the 200 IM, 100 back and 200 free relay. Whitney Peters and London Schumacher were also victorious. It was truly a great way to start the season."

The 'Dogs took first in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:58.34, as Lara Siebrecht, Peters, Walsh and Blake Broullire teamed up for the victory.

Schumacher touched the wall in a time of 4:27.64 to win the 400 IM, with Lucas and Hope Saunders completing the sweep for Gardner-Webb.

Toth led a sweep in the 200 IM, touching in 2:09.85. She was followed by Cassie Ward (2:14.73) and Juliana Denmark (2:19.99) in that event.

Walsh made a fine debut in the 100 fly, winning with a time of 57.65 seconds. Gardner-Webb also picked up wins in the 100 back (Toth, 58.87), the 500 free (Lucas, 5:13.17) and the 100 breast (Peters, 1:07.94).

The 200 free relay team of Kelsey Williams, Toth, Mackenzie Ropka and Carol Zangla won with a time of 1:38.89 as well to cap the meet.
