Runnin’ Bulldogs Post Multiple Top Finishes at Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb track and field team posted 21 top-ten finishes, along with several personal records this weekend at the Charlotte Invitational, hosted by UNC Charlotte at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.

Jalin Lawson finished third in the men's triple jump with a distance of 14.77 meters, besting his previous record of 14.24 meters, set at the Winthrop Invitational on March 26.

Lawson also finished sixth in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.89 meters.

In the women's hammer throw, Natasha Akbarizadeh finished third with a throw of 58.71 meters, followed by Petra Jakeljic in fourth with a throw of 58.44 meters, a new personal best.  Jakeljic's previous best was 55.28 meters, set at the VertKlasse Meeting on March 31.  Cailen Blaire finished twelfth in the event with a toss of 44.81 meters.

Gabby Cortese set a new personal record in the women's 3,000-meter run, clocking in at 11:02.65 to finish in fourth-place.  Her previous best was at the same event on April 15, 2016 with a time of 11:06.95.  Sydney Davis finished ninth with a time of 11:45.43.  Also setting a new PR in the event was Rachel White, who finished tenth with a time of 11:54.68.  Her previous best was 11:56.06 at last year's Charlotte Invitational. 

In the men's shot put, Marcus Abraham finished in second-place with a toss of 16.93 meters.  A.J. White finished in sixth place with a throw of 15.99 meters. 

In the men's discus throw, Abraham placed seventh with a distance of 48.22 meters, besting his previous PR of 46.82 meters set at the Mountaineer Open on April 20, 2016.  White finished ninth with a throw of 46.86 meters.

White placed tenth in the men's hammer throw with a throw of 47.57 meters.  Clay Hamilton set a new PR in the event at 40.30 meters, beating his previous best of 36.69 meters set at the Winthrop Invitational on March 25.

In the women's pole vault, Elise Moffatt earned a sixth-place finish at 3.45 meters.

Nick Bandos and Matt Dillon tied for eighth in the men's pole vault at 4.05 meters.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Hannah Sparacio earned an eighth-place finish with a time of 1:07.02.

In the men's high jump, Seaver Wait finished in eighth at 1.90 meters. 

Ashleigh Cleveland finished tenth in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.33 meters.

Logan Walker finished in seventh in the men's 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:07.93.

In the women's 800-meter run, Amy Turlington earned a ninth-place finish at 2:26.05.

In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Christopher Lile finished in seventh with a personal-best time of 9:56.42.  His previous best was 10:00.59 at the 2016 Big South Outdoor Championships on May 10, 2016. 

Jenna Ford earned a fifth-place finish in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking in at 13.09.75. 

In the women's javelin throw, Merideth Byl finished seventh with a throw of 32.17 meters.

Also setting new personal bests were Ezekiel Martin in the men's 1,500-meter run at 4:15.39 and Amanda Hall in the women's 100-meter hurdles at 16.89 seconds.

The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action next weekend at the Duke Invitational, taking place Friday, April 21-Saturday, April 22 at Morris Williams Track & Field Stadium in Durham, N.C.
