BOILING SPRINGS – Both Evelyn Adebayo and Charlisa Jenkins posted double-doubles as Gardner-Webb downed Montreat, 92-45, in front of a crowd of over 700 local elementary school students Monday afternoon in Paul Porter Arena.
Jenkins grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the team, followed by Adebayo with 10 boards.
Montreat (2-1) was led in scoring by Diamond Porter with 18 points and Jasmine Dixon in rebounding with five boards.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were hot right out of the gate, starting the contest on an 13-0 run, capped by a jumper from Hill with 5:29 to go in the first period. GWU would push its lead to 20 points with just under a minute remaining in the frame after a pair of free throws by Jenkins and would finish the opening period with a lead of 23-5.
Montreat would pull with in 12 points early in the second period, going on a quick 8-0 run to set the score at 25-13 with 8:53 on the clock, yet the Runnin' Bulldogs would respond with a 13-0 run to push the lead to 27 at 42-15 with 3:32 to go after a three pointer by Keira Currie. GWU would lead by 25, 48-23, at the half.
Gardner-Webb would continue to control play throughout the third period, extending its lead to 30 points after a layup by Jenkins with 5:10 to go to set the score at 58-28, and would lead by the same margin, 65-35, at the end of the frame.
The fourth quarter was much of the same for the Runnin' Bulldogs, pushing its lead to 50 points after a Ky'Asia Stanford layup with 2:20 remaining in the contest at 92-42. GWU would go on to win by a score of 92-45.
