BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb women's basketball will begin the Big South Conference portion of the 2016-17 season on Tuesday night at Radford at 7:00 pm in the Dedmon Center.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (5-6) completed the pre-conference schedule just before the end of 2016, taking on five teams that are currently in the top-200 in the NCAA Women's Basketball RPI rankings, including Virginia Tech, who is ranked 18th in the latest Associated Press Top-25 poll.

Gardner-Webb, picked sixth in the preseason Big South Conference poll, has been led offensively by redshirt-junior guard Tierra Huntsman, who averages 14.2 points per contest, along with 2.5 assists per game.  Huntsman has topped 20 points or more in three games this year, including a season-high 24 points in a 68-60 win at Western Carolina.

Defensively, the Runnin' Bulldogs have been paced by Charlisa Jenkins who leads the team with 7.2 rebounds a game, as well as Lovely Locklear who averages 1.8 steals a game, and Celia Tibbs who averages 1.0 blocked shots per contest.

Radford (8-3) holds an 11-9 advantage in head-to-head play over Gardner-Webb.  The two teams split the series in the 2015-16 season, with GWU taking a 54-50 win in Paul Porter Arena on January 23, and the Highlanders taking a 54-51 decision on February 9 in Radford, Va.

The Highlanders enter the contest with an RPI of 65, with two of their three losses coming to ranked teams in Kentucky and Virginia Tech.  Radford is led in scoring by Destinee Walker with 14.5 points per game, and in rebounding by Janayla White with 8.4 boards per game.

Tuesday night's game will stream live on the Big South Network (www.bigsouthsports.com).
