CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb women's basketball had two student-athletes earn postseason accolades from the Big South, as announced by the league office in advance of the 2017 Big South Conference Women's Basketball Championships.
Tierra Huntsman (Connersville, Ind. / Connersville HS) was named to the honorable mention All-Conference team, while Alexus Hill (Rocky Mount, N.C. / Northern Nash HS) was named to the All-Academic team.
Huntsman led the Runnin' Bulldogs offensively throughout the season, averaging 15.1 points per game, while dishing out an average of 2.5 assists per game. The redshirt-junior guard topped 20 points in six contests throughout the season, including a career-high 25 points against Presbyterian on January 7th.
Huntsman averaged 15.7 points in Big South contests, which was third best in the league. She also ranked in the top-ten in field goal percentage (.405 – 8th), free throw percentage (.719 – 7th), and three-pointers per game (1.7 – 6th).
Hill averaged 8.9 points per contest throughout the regular season, and had 10 or more points in 12 games. On January 15th, the junior guard had one of the best offensive games of her career, setting a new career high of 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting to lead Gardner-Webb to an 84-82 overtime win over Liberty.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (11-18, 6-12 Big South) finished in eighth place and will open the 2017 Big South Conference Championships on Thursday night at 6:00 pm in Lynchburg, Va. GWU will take on the No. 9 seed Winthrop, with the game being streamed live on the Big South Network (www.bigsouthsports.com).
Gardner-Webb defeated Winthrop in both contest this season, an 89-54 win at Rock Hill, S.C. on January 31st , and a tightly contested 63-57 win on February 18th in Boiling Springs, N.C.
