Dodson Shines To Lead Gardner-Webb Women's Golf To Team Title At 2016 Preview at the Patriot

NINETY SIX, S.C. – Gardner-Webb women's golf edged Winthrop on Sunday to win the 2016 Preview at the Patriot Tournament, closing out the fall season in style.

Veteran standout Taylor Dodson won medalist honors for the event, shooting back-to-back 70s to finish at 4-under par. The Aiken, S.C., native was the only golfer to finish under par in the tournament.

The Runnin' Bulldogs shot a second-day score of 296 to finish at +23 for the event, which was hosted by The Patriot at Grand Harbor – the same course that will host the 2017 Big South Conference Women's Golf Championships in the spring.

Gardner-Webb (303-296-599) held off Winthrop (307-294-601) for the team title. High Point (309-299-608) finished third at +32.

Dodson paced the field in Par 3 scoring (-2), Par 4 scoring (+2), Par 5 scoring (-4) and birdies (9).

She was followed by teammates Julia Henderson (77-74-151) and Sarah Bertram (76-75-151) who tied for fifth. Wassawan Sangkapong finished in a tie for 13th, Morgan Laird and Allison Chandler finished tied for 17th and Courtney Yanch finished 36th.

The excellent performance wraps up the fall season for Gardner-Webb.
