CHARLOTTE – Taylor Dodson was named Big South Conference Women's Golfer of the Week on Thursday following her standout performance in Morganton, N.C., earlier this week.
Dodson (Aiken, S.C. / South Aiken HS) fought through very wet and stormy conditions Monday, firing a second-round score of 69 to take medalist honors at the 2017 Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate golf tournament.
Dodson was the lone golfer in the field to finish under par, shooting a 143 (minus-1) for the two-day event.
Dodson carded three birdies on the front nine Monday, including two on the first three holes of the day. She finished with a 33 at the turn and birdied the 12th hole on the back nine.
She ranked second in the field with seven birdies over two days and led the event with 26 pars. Gardner-Webb also won the team trophy, its first of the spring season.
Dodson, who had a string of 15 consecutive finishes in the top-10 snapped at the end of last season, has five top-10 finishes so far in 2016-2017. Her finish on Monday in Morganton was her second medalist honor of the season.
She also took first at the 2016 Preview at the Patriot in November to close out the fall season.
Dodson leads Gardner-Webb with a 75.18 stroke average through 22 rounds played so far this season. Her round of 69 was her best in 2016-2017, topping her previous best of 70 – accomplished twice so far.
Up next for Dodson and the Runnin' Bulldogs is the 2017 Big South Women's Golf Championship in Ninety Six, S.C. (April 17-19).
