BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb women's lacrosse signed 12 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period, getting off to a strong start to the recruiting process for the Class of 2017.

Head coach Jill Krick and her staff mined the talent-rich DC Metro/Baltimore area with great success, signing eight members of the class from that region. Gardner-Webb also tapped into New York, Canada, Ohio and Florida to round out the class.

"We are excited about the early signees for our program and feel that we added a great deal of skill and athleticism to our future rosters," said Krick. "Our staff did a great job of identifying prospects who fit well within the culture of our program and university and we couldn't be happier with the results."

Joining the Runnin' Bulldogs in the Class of 2017 are: defender Alex Alatriste (Windermere, Fla. / Bishop Moore HS); midfielder Tori Birks (Sterling, Va. / Potomac Falls HS); midfielder Lauren Deaver (Falls Church, Va. / George C. Marshall HS); attacker Emily Dyment (Withby, Ontario / Sinclar Secondary); defender Elizabeth Engel (Bayport, N.Y.); goalie Taylor Fox (Loveland, Ohio / Loveland HS); midfielder Eilish Gately (Baltimore, Md. / Notre Dame Prep); attacker Hailey Maranto (Edgewater, Md. / South River HS); midfielder Madison Martin (Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier HS); midfielder Brooke Myrick (Baltimore, Md. / Notre Dame Prep); defender Emily Rowell (Laurel, Md. / Reservoir HS) and defender Hannah Smith (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason HS).

Three of the signees – Birks, Deaver and Smith – have already earned All-State honors during their prep careers. Another, Maranto, was a 2014 Brine All-America selection and gained international experience against the English National Team during a tour of England and Scotland.

The dozen signees will join a growing Gardner-Webb program for the 2018 season. The Runnin' Bulldogs, members of the Big South Conference, began its lacrosse journey in its inaugural 2015 season. Krick is entering her second season as head coach, and quadrupled the program's win total in her first season at the helm.

The Runnin' Bulldogs open the 2017 season on the road at Virginia Tech on February 8. The squad opens its home schedule – which features nine dates – on February 28 vs. St. Francis (Pa.) at 4:00 pm.
