CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb junior Amanda Steinmuller was named preseason All-Big South Conference on Tuesday as the league announced its annual preseason honors and poll.
Steinmuller (Ellicott, Md. / Mt. Hebron) enters her third campaign as a focal point of Gardner-Webb's offense. She is the team's top returning scorer after ranking second last season in goals scored (28) and points (32) in 11 starts. Steinmuller also ranked second in shooting percentage (49.1%).
She earned second-team All-Big South Conference honors based on the strength of her play against league foes – when she scored 20 of her 28 goals (71.4%) on the season. That included a season-best six goals at Liberty on April 16. Steinmuller ended by scoring at least one goal in 12 of her final 14 games – including a nine-game streak to close out the regular season.
Steinmuller enters the 2017 campaign with 53 career points (46 goals).
Gardner-Webb was tabbed eighth in the preseason poll, falling six votes shy of a two-way tie for sixth place (Presbyterian/Radford).
High Point, with six first-place votes, was picked as preseason favorite.
The Runnin' Bulldogs open the regular season on February 8 at Virginia Tech.
