HIGH POINT, N.C. - Gardner-Webb fell, 4-0, to High Point Saturday to wrap up a tough, three-game Big South Conference road trip Saturday afternoon.

The Runnin' Bulldogs fell to 4-7-2 (1-2-0 BSC) on the season, while the Panthers improved to 6-4-1 (2-0-0 BSC).

"We weren't very good defending set pieces in the first half and it cost us," said head coach Mike Varga. "We had moments where we played well, but moments won't do it. We need to sustain our effort for 90 minutes. The second half was much better. We played with more energy and I thought we created better chances than our opponent. It will be good to be home after starting conference play with three-straight road matches."

The first 22 minutes were quiet, until High Point found the back of the net in the 23rd minute when Alex Denny scored off an assist from Kelsey Perrell. High Point led 1-0.

High Point continued their surge with two more goals over the next 10 minutes with Denny scoring her second of the match and Michele Micciche also finding the net.

Justine Ibarra had a chance for the Runnin' Bulldogs with three minutes' left in the half, as she attempted a corner kick that was negated by the Panthers' defense.

High Point led 3-0 going into the intermission.

Gardner-Webb tallied three shots on goal in the second half, and six on the match, but the High Point defense remained stout and stopped them all.

The Panthers tallied one more in the second half as Kelsey Perrell found the back net in the 64th, as she weaved her way through the Runnin' Bulldogs defense and placing a shot past the keeper. The strike gave High Point a 4-0 lead, which ended up being the final score.

Gardner-Webb was led by Stina Kleppe and Brandi Arey, who each had three shots on the day. Kleppe had three shots on goal, while Arey had two on goal as well. High Point was led by Denny (four shots, two on target) with two goals, and Micciche and Perrell each tallying a goal as well.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to home action on Wednesday, October 5, as the Liberty Flames pay a visit to Boiling Springs. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
