KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Gardner-Webb University women's soccer was one of 592 collegiate soccer programs honored with the NSCAA Team Academic Award.

Coach Mike Varga's Runnin' Bulldogs earned the award for their exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2015-2016 academic year.

It marks the eighth consecutive season and 12th time in 13 seasons that Gardner-Webb has posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better for an academic year.

Gardner-Webb earned a cumulative GPA of 3.46 during the 2015-2016 year, well above the minimum of a 3.0 cumulative to qualify for the award.

The team GPA is determined by adding each student-athlete's GPA and dividing it by the number of student-athletes.

Gardner-Webb finished the 2016 season with a 9–8-3 record, earning the No. 4 seed in the postseason Big South Conference Tournament. The program landed a record four members on the 2016 All-Big South Conference team, led by forward Brandi Arey and defender Bri Nagle.

Both seniors earned a spot on the Big South's All-Conference first-team.

Arey, who carries a 3.77 cumulative GPA, was also named to the Big South's All-Academic Team.

Forward Jessica Ferguson, who has a 4.0 cumulative GPA, earned a spot on the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District III Team.

Freshmen Stina Kleppe (second-team) and Eline Glamsland (honorable mention) also earned All-Big South Conference honors. Both were also named to the league's All-Freshman Team.
