Women's Tennis Drops Big South Opener at Winthrop Wednesday Afternoon

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Gardner-Webb women's tennis opened its 2017 Big South Conference campaign on the road Wednesday afternoon, falling to host Winthrop by a 7-0 score.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (3-3, 0-1) saw their three-match win streak snapped in the process.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead on the strength of the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by identical 6-1 scores.

Winthrop's Lauren Proctor topped Gardner-Webb's Sandra Bolstad at No. 1 singles in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) and the Eagles took No. 2 singles and No. 6 singles to clinch the team win.

Winthrop followed with wins at No. 4 singles, No. 5 singles and No. 3 singles to cap the match.

Gardner-Webb will remain in conference for its next match, hosting Longwood at Noon on Saturday, February 25 in Boiling Springs.
