Volleyball Adds Two To 2017 Recruiting Class

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb volleyball program has added two new faces to its ranks in preparation for the upcoming 2017 season, announced head coach Leo Sayles on Thursday.

Elizabeth Griffith (Roland, Ark.) and Maria Emmick (Indianapolis, Ind.) join early signees Joy Rhodes (Wake Forest, N.C.), Alex Roycraft (Boca Raton, Fla.), Abbey Sprinkle (Boiling Springs, S.C.), and Katie Stanton (Newnan, Ga.) to total six new Runnin' Bulldogs for the 2017 season.

Griffith, a 6-1 middle blocker/right side hitter, comes to Gardner-Webb from Pulaski Academy, where she helped lead her team to a conference championship this past season.  She earned All-State honors following her sophomore and senior campaigns, and was named to the All-Conference team after her junior season.  She has also been a member of the Fatchmo Volley club team for the past six years.

Emmick, a 6-0 right side hitter, arrives to GWU from Cardinal Ritter High School, where she was a four-year starter.  She helped lead her squad to conference and sectional championships all four years, and led the team to the Indiana Class 2A Final Four her sophomore season.  She received All-Conference honors following her junior and senior seasons, as well as being named to Indianapolis All-City team those years.  She also spent seven seasons playing for the Circle City Volleyball club team.
