BOILING SPRINGS, N.C – The Gardner-Webb volleyball team has finalized its 2017 fall schedule, which includes three competitive early-season tournaments as well as eleven home contests, announced head coach Leo Sayles Wednesday.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will take part in three tournaments this season, beginning with the James Madison Tournament to open the season on August 25 and 26, taking on Rider, Sacred Hart, and tournament host James Madison.
Gardner-Webb will host the AmericInn Runnin' Bulldog Invitational on September 1 and 2, taking on North Carolina Central at 11:00 am and USC Upstate at 6:30 pm on the opening day, and closing action against Wofford at 2:00 pm on the final day of the tourney.
GWU will host Elon on September 5 at 7:00 pm before heading to Greenville, N.C. for its final tournament at East Carolina on September 8 and 9. The 'Dogs will take on The Citadel, Hampton, and host East Carolina.
Gardner-Webb will play an additional three matches on the road in non-conference play, at North Carolina Central (September 12), at Furman (September 13) and at North Carolina A&T (October 3).
The 16-match Big South Conference schedule begins on September 19 at UNC Asheville, before the Runnin' Bulldogs return to the friendly confines of Paul Porter Arena for two contests, hosting Radford (September 22) and UNC Asheville (September 26).
Road contests at Charleston Southern (September 29) and Winthrop (September 30) are followed by a three-match home stand against High Point (October 7), Presbyterian (October 10), and Charleston Southern (October 13).
Gardner-Webb will travel to High Point on October 17 before hosting Campbell on October 20.
GWU then hits the road for a four-match swing at Liberty (October 27), Radford (October 28), Campbell (November 3), and Presbyterian (November 4), before closing the regular season at home, hosting Winthrop (November 9) and Liberty (November 11) in advance of the 2017 Big South Conference Volleyball Championship at Radford University on November 16-19.
