ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Keaton Poole (Spindale, N.C.) established a new personal record by more than 40 seconds, while Gabrielle Cortese (Franklin Springs, Ga.) and Jenna Ford (Wasilla, Alaska) posted a pair of top-20 finishes to pace the Gardner-Webb women's cross country team to a fifth-place performance on Saturday at the Asheville Cross Country Carnival.
Christopher Lile (Waynesville, N.C.) paced the men's team in 15th with a time of 27:31.08 in the 8k, missing his PR by only one second, while Poole placed 18th with a new personal-best of 27:36.31 - his first-ever mark under 28 minutes. Josh Parks (Forest City, N.C.) turned in a time of 28:54.71 to finish 38th. Ezekiel Martin (Goldsboro, N.C.) finished with a time of 30:59.87, while Logan Walker and Brett Holida posted marks of 31:43.08 and 32:54.80, respectively. Joseph Johnson crossed the line with a time of 35:36.39.
Cortese led the way for the women's team in 16th with a time of 20:29.22 in the 5k, as Ford followed close behind in 19th with a mark of 20:36.59. Sydney Davis (Granite Falls, N.C.) crossed the line in 21:30.81, while Rachel White (King, N.C.) and Hannah Jones posted times of 22:24.50 and 22:41.22, respectively. Michaela Williams (Nashville, N.C.) turned in a mark of 22:58.46 as Amy Turlington (Hendersonville, N.C.) crossed the line in 22:59.52.
Gardner-Webb returns to action next Friday at the Adidas XC Challenge in Cary, N.C.
