Bulldogs Clinch First Round Bye with 1-0 Win over Belmont

Nashville, Tenn – The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to six matches on Saturday afternoon, as they shutout Belmont 1-0 in Nashville, Tenn. Over that six games stretch head coach Tony Setzer's squad has gone 5-0-1 with four victories coming in conference play.
The win moves the Bulldogs to (6-6-3, 5-1-1 A-Sun) and assures them a first round bye in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship tournament in early November.
The ‘Dogs five conference wins this season is the most conference wins in one season that the program has had since joining the A-Sun in 2002.
The Bulldogs notched the only goal of the game early in the match, when at the 12:52 mark, sophomore Ryan Snodgrass connected with fellow classmate Chris Salvaggione to give the ‘Dogs an early 1-0 lead. Snodgrass took a corner kick, putting the ball into the box where Salvaggione put a foot on the ball and placed it in the lower left corner of the net.
The one goal was all the ‘Dogs needed, as they only put four shots on frame for the match, with two shots apiece coming from Salvaggione and Boris Gatzky.
However, the GWU defense was stellar as they held the Bruins to only 10 shots for the match, with only one of those coming on frame, which was corralled by keeper Tyler Kettering for his only save of the match.
The shutout on Saturday night was Kettering's fourth on the season.
The Bulldogs will host their final home game of the season on Monday, October 23, at 7 p.m. It will be Senior Night, as GWU will honor its four seniors – Tyler Kettering, Jonathan Black, Carlton Hughes and Jamie Miller – before the match with UNC-Asheville.
