
Both GWU Men and Women Finish Third at Gardner-Webb Duals

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Both the Gardner-Webb men's and women's cross country teams took third-place overall in the 2006 Gardner-Webb Cross Country Dual Meet held in Boiling Springs. The men ran a 6k race, while the ladies competed in a 4k event.
The GWU men scored 62 points, a mere 12 points behind the second-place Kennesaw State who finished with 50 points. Atlantic Sun affiliate East Tennessee State finished in first place with 40 points. Campbell took fourth-place with 96 points, while UNCA finished fifth with 119 points and Wofford in sixth with 140 points.
The Bulldogs were led by sophomore Josh Hudson who crossed the finish line with a time of 19:22, which was good enough for third-place individually overall. Hudson finished just 22 seconds ahead of teammate Lucas McAneney who finished with a time of 19:44 and a seventh-place showing.
Alex Nimmo took 11th overall with a time of 19:58, while Geoff Lesch-Wragge finished 19th overall with his time of 20:47.10.
Erin Goodrum and Tim Israel finished 32nd and 33rd, respectively, while Charlie Steinke took the 35th spot, rounding out the scoring for the GWU Harriers.
East Tennessee State's Michael Deren finished first with a time of 18:59, a whole 11 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Scott Burley of Kennesaw State.
Like the men's team, the Gardner-Webb women harriers also finished third on Friday evening, picking up 74 points for the race.
The Lady Bulldogs finished behind first-place Kennesaw State (50 points) and second-place Campbell (53 points). The Lady Harriers finished ahead of UNCA (82 points), Clemson (128 points), East Tennessee State (143 points) and Wofford (192 points).
Senior Michele Milner paced GWU, turning in a fourth-place finish with a time of 16:03. Fellow classmate Katherine Warden finished with a time of 16:31, which was good enough for a ninth-place finish overall, while Abby Callahan crossed the finish line only 7 seconds later, at 16:38.2 to finish 11th overall.
Bree Tharpe finished 21st overall with a time of 17:05, while Carrie Minard and Beth Long wrapped up the Lady Bulldog scoreing with 29th and 31st place finishes, respectively.
Campbell's Alicia Valtin finished first with a time of 15:10, while Erin Sutton of Kennesaw State took second with a time of 15:37.
Both the Gardner-Webb men's and women's cross country teams will be in action next weekend when they will compete in the Winthrop 4K and 6K events in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The Lady Bulldogs will run in the 4K meet on Friday, October 13, while the men will compete in the 6k event on Saturday, October 14.
