GWU Men Return Home To Host Ferrum Wednesday Night At 7:00
November 28, 2006 | Men's Basketball
BOILING SPRINGS - Gardner-Webb will return home in search of its
first win Wednesday night, as Ferrum (Va.) College rolls into Paul
Porter Arena for a 7 pm ET tip.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (0-5) are coming off a pair of 12-point losses
to top-flight competition, falling at home last Tuesday to Southern
Conference favorite UNC Greensboro, and on the road at undefeated
ACC foe NC State - after leading the Pack at halftime.
Sophomore scorer Ricky McPhee (14.0 ppg) leads the Bulldog attack
so far this season, and has been helped by senior Chris Gash (12.0
ppg) and junior Jake Sims (10.4 ppg). Sims, a transfer from Dodge
City (Kan.) Junior College, netted a season-high 15 points on
5-of-6 shooting at NC State, and has been one of the team's best
all-around players through five games.
Gardner-Webb's point guard play has been solid so far this season,
with Takayo Siddle and Wesley Mincey combining for 23 assists and
just nine turnovers through five games. Siddle (8.4 ppg) has also
been scoring well from the point, with his 16 points in the opener
at Texas Tech a career-best effort. Siddle, who prepped at Hargrave
Military Academy in Virginia, had 10 points at No. 2 North Carolina
on Nov. 19, and has settled in nicely to his role as the team's
starter.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will face a Ferrum squad that is off to a 3-2
start this season. The Panthers, who play on the NCAA Division III
level, are coming off a 73-67 loss to Eastern Mennonite College,
are averaging 68.0 ppg as a team. Cedric Jones, a 6-foot-5,
205-pound forward, paces the Panthers with 13.2 points and 9.3
rebounds per game, and is one of four men averaging in double
figures so far this season.
Opening tip is set for 7 pm ET in Paul Porter Arena Wednesday. For
ticket information, contact the GWU athletics department at (704)
406-4340. The game will be broadcast live on WGWG-FM (88.3) and via
