Bulldogs Put Five In Double Figures, Beat Methodist 86-68, In Exhibition Bout

BOILING SPRINGS - Ricky McPhee's 19 points led a parade of five
Gardner-Webb players in double figures, as the Runnin' Bulldogs
beat Methodist 86-68 in exhibition action.
McPhee scored 14 of his points in the first half for the youthful
'Dogs, who had just three returning letterwinners suited up for
Wednesday's game. GWU struggled shooting the basketball from
outside much of the evening, but owned a 16-rebound edge on the
glass and blocked five shots to keep the Monarchs from
challenging.
McPhee hit four threes on the night in 11 attempts, but the
Bulldogs made just seven of 22 chances as a team in the game -
shooting 43.4 percent overall from the floor.
Thomas Sanders added 17 points, 13 rebounds and four assists for
GWU, Takayo Siddle scored 14 points, Jake Sims added 13 points and
Samba Fall contributed 10 points, six rebounds and two blocked
shots for Gardner-Webb. Siddle (6-for-9) and reserve center Clint
Graham (2-for-3) were the only GWU players to shoot above 50
percent for the game
Sanders, who played last season at Otero (Colo.) Junior College,
pulled down seven of his rebounds on the offensive end, pacing a
17-8 edge for GWU in second-chance points on the night.
Forward Dragan Radmanovic led Methodist with 18 points, and Darrian
Anderson had 16 for the Monarchs.
Gardner-Webb opens the 2006-2007 regular season at Big 12 contender
Texas Tech on November 13, sending one of the nation's youngest and
most inexperienced teams onto the floor against Bob Knight's Red
Raiders.
The game will tip at 10 pm ET, and will be broadcast live on ESPNU,
with Ron Franklin and Fran Fraschilla providing the call.
