CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. Gardner-Webb's pair of Claudine Foong and Katie Garahan both earned a spot on the All-American Scholar Team, announced by the National Golf Coaches Association.
GWU's Claudine Foong earned second team All-Atlantic Sun honors for
her play in 2006. The rising senior from Aurora, Ontario, led the
Lady Bulldogs throughout the fall season, finishing in the top-20
in all five spring tournaments, including a 13th place finish at
the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament. Foong is working toward a
degree in Public Relations.
Freshman standout Katie Garahan, also received post-season honors,
as she was named to the A-Sun All-Freshman Team. The Elementary
Education major saw immediate action for the Bulldogs last season,
as she competed in four fall tournaments and all five-spring
tournaments for GWU.
The GWU duo was among 371 women's golfers from NCAA Division I, II,
and III to be recognized for this prestigious honor. The criteria
for selection to the All- American Scholar Team are some of the
most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA
is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% of
the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the
year.
Foong and Garahan join Belmont's Kate Austin as the Atlantic Sun
conference representatives on the team.
