Women's Cross Country To Open Season Friday At Appalachian State

BOILING SPRINGS - Seniors Michelle Milner and Katherine Warden pace a seasoned group of runners as Gardner-Webb's women's cross country team opens its 2006 season on Friday at Appalachian State.
Milner (Aiken, S.C.) had her best cross country season in 2005, and will be joined by Warden as the Lady Bulldogs' top All-Conference candidates for the 2006 campaign - when GWU hosts the A-Sun Championships on Oct. 28, in Boiling Springs.
Suniors Jessica Poremsky (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Carlene McLean (Couva, Trinidad) add veteran depth for GWU, but the bulk of Gardner-Webb's experience comes in the sophomore class - as a group of five returns for 2006.
That sophomore class of Kathleen Hlwatsch, Beth Long, Carrie Minard, Rebecca Silleman and Bree Tharpe will be asked to compete at a high level if Gardner-Webb make a move near the top of the A-Sun cross country circles.
Newcomers Allyson Litrell (Soph., Greensboro, N.C.) and Abby Callahan (Fr., Ontario, Canada) will also compete for spots in the Bulldogs top-6 this season.
