
Men's Golf Season Comes to a Close

ORLANDO, Fla. The Gardner-Webb men's golf team wrapped up their season with a third round team score of 290 at the Atlantic Sun Championships on Wednesday. The day three score was the lowest team score for a round in the tournament for the Dogs. The Bulldogs took eighth place, as they shot a three- day score of 895, +19.
GWU got off to a fairly good start on Monday, shooting a 300 to end
day one in ninth place. Blake Palmer led the Dogs after the
first round as he turned in a 72, one under on Monday.
Palmer again led the Bulldogs with a second round 75, +2 on day two
as Gardner-Webb finished the second round with a 305, moving them
up ahead of Stetson in eighth place going into day three.
On the final day, the Bulldogs played perhaps their best golf of
the season, as Palmer, Joshua Philbeck, and Casey Flattery all
carded a third round 72, one under par, to help the Bulldogs hold
on to eighth place.
For the three-day event Gardner-Webb totaled a score of 895, +19,
good enough for eighth place and finishing ahead of Lipscomb and
Stetson.
For the tournament, GWU's Flattery had 39 pars out of the 54 holes
played, while fellow teammate Palmer carded pars on 38 holes.
Jacksonville shot a final round 277 to win its first-ever Atlantic
Sun Men`s Golf Championship.
North Florida finished in a close second, five strokes behind the
Dolphins of Jacksonville.
The individual title went to Jacksonville's Duncan Stewart, who won
in a playoff hole over fellow teammate Russel Knox. Stewart turned
in rounds of 70, 68, and 68 over the three-day tournament.
Palmer led the Bulldogs with a total score of 219 good enough for a
tie in 21st position. Juniors Philbeck and Casey Flattery finished
on the heels of Palmer, shooting three-day scores of 225 and 227,
respectively.
Sophomore Geordie Hagerman and freshman Ryan Bell also played well
for the Dogs, as Hagerman turned in a score of 229, and Bell
carded a 230 for the three rounds.
