
Lady Golfers Begin Fall Slate with Fifth-Place Finish at Draper Valley

Draper, Va. - The Lady Bulldogs opened up their 2006 fall season this week, turning in a fifth-place finish at the at the season-opening Draper Valley Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State at the par-72, 5,910-yard Draper Valley Golf Club in Draper, Va.
Gardner-Webb turned in a three round combined team score of 902, +41 for the two-day event. The Lady Bulldogs finished fifth out of 18 teams, placing ahead of teams such as Atlantic Sun foes Belmont, Kennesaw State and Lipscomb, as well as Old Dominion, Appalachian State, Murray State, Radford, Tennessee Tech, Charleston Southern and the Citadel.
The Lady Bulldogs set a school record for the lowest round of 18 holes, shooting a second round of 297, as well as set new school records with low scores of 568 for 36 holes and 902 for 54 holes.
Senior Claudine Foong who tied for first-place individually, turned in a 217, +1 for the tournament, to lead GWU. Foong turned in rounds of 74, +2 and a low round of 70, -2 on Monday followed by a 73, +1 on Tuesday.
Sophomores Yayoi Garcia and Katie Garahan finished with scores of 227, +11 and 228, +12, respectively, giving them finishes of 17th and 23rd.
Also scoring for the Lady Bulldogs was senior Stacey Linduska, who turned in a combined score of 235, +19, which was good enough for a 46th place finish. Sophomore Mackenzie Renner turned in a round of 75, +3 on Tuesday, to help he move into a tie for 54th place at the tournament's end.
The women's golf team will be back on the links in a little over a week, when it will take part in the Sea Trail Women's Intercollegiate hosted by Elon University September 23-24.
