
McAneney and Milner Pace GWU Harriers at Covered Bridge Open

Boone, NC - Junior Lucas McAneney and senior Michele Milner led Gardner-Webb's men's and women's cross country teams at the Covered Bridge Open on Friday, at the State Farm Fields in Boone.
McAneney led the men's team with a 14th place finish (26:44.21) in the 8k race, while sophomore Joshua Hudson turned in a 32nd place finish with a time of 27:37.75.
Also scoring for the men were Alex Nimmo, who placed 58th individually (29:14.99), Timothy Israel, which took a 62nd place finish (29:52.13), and Erin Goodrum who finished in 73rd place (31:13.14).
Coastal Carolina captured the team title, placing four runners in the top 10. John Heron led the team in fourth (26:17.88), followed closely by teammates Jamie McCarthy in sixth (26:21.58), Max Hacker placing seventh (26:28.28), and in ninth place, Doug Currie (26:33.21).
As for the Lady Harriers, senior Michele Milner paced the Bulldogs in the 5k race, taking a 15th place finish with her time of 19:20.12.
Freshman newcomer Abby Callahan finished 32rd in her collegiate debut turning in a time of 20:16.09. Senior Katherine Warden was not far behind as she finished with a time of 20:23.83, good enough for a 34th place finish.
The Lady Harriers also received points from sophomores Bree Tharpe and Beth Long, who crossed the line at 55th place (21:14.98) and 71st place (22:34.07), respectively.
ACC affiliate Florida State University finished as meet champions, placing four runners in the Top-10. Amy Huss placed fourth (18:16.54), followed by Barbara Parker in fifth (18:32.95), Jessica Crate in ninth (18:40.11), and Kirsten Hager rounding out the top 10 (18:41.15).
Both the men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action next weekend, as they will compete in the Clemson Invitational on Saturday, September 9, at Clemson, South Carolina.
