
GWU Lady Golfers Take Second at Sea Trail Women's Intercollegiate

Sunset Beach, N.C. The Gardner-Webb women's golf team continued their strong 2006 fall season, as they turned in a second-place finish this weekend at the Sea Trail Women's Intercollegiate tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs turned in a combined two-day team score of 610, only 14 strokes behind the first-place Elon Phoenix. For the second straight tournament, the Lady Bulldogs turned in a school-record low of 297 over 18 holes, as they shot a 297 on Saturday.
Sophomores Yayoi Garcia, Katie Garahan and Mackenzie Renner led the Bulldogs, as each turned in strong performances on both Saturday and Sunday. Garcia turned in a fourth-place finish, shooting a 71, one under par on Saturday and a 78, +6 on Sunday, to give her a 149, +5 for the two-round event.
Fellow classmates Garahan and Renner finished right behind Garcia, as Garahan put together rounds of 73 and 80, to shoot a 153, +9 and finished tied for 11th. Renner finished only two strokes behind Garahan, shooting a 155, +11, which was good enough for a tie in 18th place.
Seniors Stacey Linduska and Claudine Foong rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs as Linduska tied for 24th place with a two-day score of 157, +13 and Foong turned in a score of 159, +15 and a tie for 32nd place overall.
Gardner-Webb finished ahead of Western Carolina, Mercer and Radford for the tournament.
The Lady Golfers will be back in action this weekend, September 30-31, when they will compete in the Great Smokies Women's Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina.
