Lady Bulldogs to Host Annual GWU Half-Double Invitational This Saturday

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's swim team will be in action for the last time at home this season on Saturday afternoon, when they will host their annual GWU Half-Double Invitational. The Lady Bulldogs will honor their three seniors - Camille Palacio, Kathryn Williams and Terra Wilson - as they square off to do battle with both NC A&T and Campbell.

Gardner-Webb's seniors have all been standouts in both the pool and in the classroom over their four-year stay here at GWU. Palacio, who will be graduating with a double major in psychology and sociology, has been a constant over the past four seasons for the Bulldogs in the IM, breast and fly events, while also being a leader in and out of the water.

Williams, an elementary education major, has earned all-NEC conference honors in all three of her prior seasons with the Bulldogs and will look to continue that trend come this February at the NEC Championship meet. Along with both Palacio and Wilson, Williams has been named to the NEC All-Academic team twice and to GWU's Academic All-Sports Team. The sprint free performer and Bulldog relay member was rewarded for her unselfishness and team spirit last season, when she was awarded the "I am Third" team award given to her by her teammates and coaches.

Wilson has shined at GWU making a huge splash in her very first collegiate meet. The NCAA Honorable Mention All-American has racked up the wins and the awards over her stint at Gardner-Webb. Last season, Wilson was an Honorable Mention All-American in the 200 free, a USS Summer Nationals Olympic Trails Qualifier in the 100 free, a CSCAA Academic All-American, and the NEC Swimmer of the Year. Also in 2006, Wilson became the first GWU female student-athlete to compete at the NCAA Division I Championships. In her freshman campaign, Wilson was named the 2004 NEC Swimmer of the Year and the NEC Rookie of the Year. The senior psychology major currently holds 11 GWU school records and four NEC records which she intends to reset this upcoming February.

The Lady Bulldogs are 8-4 in dual meet action entering into Saturday afternoons meet. The start time is slated for 1 p.m.
