Bulldogs Fall To ETSU, 2-0

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team
fought hard, but fell to ETSU Thursday afternoon in a key A-Sun
match-up by a 2-0 score.
The Bulldogs fall to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in conference competition.
The Bucs improved to 6-4-2 overall and 2-3 in A-Sun play.
The match was pretty much even all the way around, except where it
counted. ETSU tallied 11 total shots while GWU totaled 10.
The Bucs had seven shots on frame while the Bulldogs notched six.
Each team amassed seven corner kicks. GWU had five saves in the
contest while ETSU had six.

Wyszynski, rookie Ashley Scott played all 90 minutes. She
stuffed three first-half shots from ETSU in the opening stanza as
the Bulldogs and Bucs played to a 0-0 draw heading into
intermission.
GWU's Brittany Woods launched a shot 4:41 into the
match that was corralled by Rachel VanHorn. The Bulldogs were
unable to put together another shot on frame until the 39th minute
when junior Angie Harvey put her boot on a hard-fired shot.
However, VanHorn was able to stop that shot as well, leaving it
tied after the first half.
In the second half, ETSU had two quick tries, but one was saved
while another was blocking, keeping the match scoreless. Scott was
up to the challenge in the 56th minute as she recorded yet another
save off a Katie Green shot.
GWU fended off three straight corner kicks by ETSU before the
Bulldogs' offense was able to get its first shot of the second half
– a Kasey Gladhill attempt that Van Horn saved.
Woods and Lindsey Gladhill each had opportunities in the
62nd and 63rd minutes, respectively, but couldn't find the back of
the net.
In the 64th minute, Jordan Monty netted what proved to be the
game-winner after receiving a Green pass.
After the goal, the Bucs continued pushing forward. However, the
GWU defense was able to regain possession. The Bulldogs had two
shots, one of which was on frame, but once again were denied.
In the 77th minute, Katie O'Bryan got a loose ball in the box and
scored an insurance goal.
GWU will look to even its A-Sun record on Saturday at 2 p.m., when
the team welcomes league newcomer USC Upstate to Varsity Field.
