GWU Men Take First, Women Finish Second At 2007 GWU Dual Meet

McAneney and Alex Nimmo, Gardner-Webb's men's cross country
team easily outdistanced the field at the 2007 GWU Dual Meet.
The men's squad downed UNC-Asheville and Wofford. Appalachian State
did not record a team score on the men's side. GWU bested the
Bulldogs of UNCA by 13 points while head coach Brian Baker's team
earned the top-five spots against Wofford, outscoring the nearby
school by 28 points.
The women's team downed Appalachian State by nine points while
taking the bite out of the Terriers of Wofford by 15 points. The
Bulldogs finished just three points behind UNC-Asheville.
McAneney crossed first in the 6,000m race with a time of
20:04.00, and was followed closely by classmate Alex
Nimmo in second (20:47.00). UNC Asheville's Andrew Burnette
finished third with a time of 20:51, falling just short of Nimmo's
pace.
Appalachian State's "B" squad saw three runners finish in line
next, but none were awarded team points. The Mountaineers' fifth
runner did not finish, eliminating the squad from team scoring.
Gardner-Webb saw Tim Israel finish with five team points with a
time of 21:53.00, Charlie Steinke finish with six team points and a
time of 21:55.00 and Justin Keziah take seven team points with a
time of 22:11.00. Erin Goodrum and Paul Steinke also competed and
finished for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Gardner-Webb finished 15 points in front of UNC Asheville in the
regular scoring, with Wofford's "B" squad rounding out the field.
GWU took head-to-head matchups with both UNC Asheville and Wofford
in the double dual scoring format.
Gardner-Webb's women finished four points shy of a team victory
Friday afternoon in the 4,000m race – finishing behind UNC
Asheville. Appalachian State's "B" team followed 17 points behind
Gardner-Webb, with the Wofford women's "B" team finishing 55 points
behind GWU.
UNC Asheville's Emily Mase and Ingrid Allstaedt finished first and
second to pace the field individually, with Gardner-Webb's Abby
Callahan taking third in a time of 16:08.00.
Gardner-Webb's Laura Scott, Carrie
Minard and Beth Long finished seventh, eighth and ninth to
capture top-10 results. Bree Tharpe (12th), Diana
Palka (14th), Allye Littrell (15th), Rebecca
Silleman (20th), Meredith Trexler (24th), Kathleen
Hlawatsch (25th) and Leah Hudiak (28th) also finished the race
for GWU.
Gardner-Webb will compete at Appalachian State next weekend.
