Final Two Bulldogs Eliminated From Prestigious Tournament
December 30, 2007 | Wrestling
GREENSBORO, N.C. After competing well on the final day of the Southern Scuffle, both Gardner-Webb wrestlers Chad Davis and Dustin Porter were eliminated before the medal rounds Sunday afternoon.
Davis opened the day strong after being sent to the consolation bracket yesterday afternoon. Facing elimination, Davis downed George Mason's Zach Ulm by a 9-0 major decision victory. However, he fell in the next round to Kyle Kiss of North Carolina, who was competing unattached. The score in the match was 7-3 in favor of Kiss.
Porter dropped a hard fought match to Minnesota's Yura Malamura by a 4-2 count in consolation bracket, therefore eliminating him from contention.
The Bulldogs return to action on Jan. 5 when they head to Raleigh, N.C., to compete at the Wolfpack Duals, which is an all-day affair.
