Lady Netters Fall To Coastal Carolina, 6-1

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team fell to the Lady Chanticleers on Saturday morning, 6-1, scoring one victory in singles play.
Junior Monica Walser scored the lone victory of the day for the Lady Bulldogs defeating Kimberely Webb in three sets 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 3 slot. Walser battled back from a back and forth first set loss to take the next two sets 6-4 and 6-4.
In the other singles bouts, the Bulldogs Laura Kriett fell at the No. 1 spot to Hayley Rudman of Coastal Carolina in three sets after winning the first set 6-2.
Sophomores Jenny Gomez and Amy Beavers both fought hard in their matches at the Nos. 4 and 5 positions, respectively, with both falling in straight sets. Gomez lost the first set to Sarize Coetzee of Coastal 7-6 before falling 6-0 in the second set. Beavers fought valiantly in her loss to Sofie Ahleberg, losing the first set 7-5 and the second 7-6.
In doubles play the home team took all three bouts from the visiting Lady Bulldogs. At No. 1 the tandem of Beavers and Kriett fell to Coastal's Rudman and Amy Pazahanick, 8-3. At the No. 2 spot the team of Walser and Gomez were dropped by Coastal's Coetzee and Ahleberg 8-4, while Kimberely Webb and Maria Camberos of Coastal 8-5 downed the Bulldog unit of Kasey Ellis and Carol Pancia at the No. 3.
The Lady Bulldogs (0-5) wil be back in action on Wednesday February 14, when they will travel just down I-85 to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on Wofford. The match is slated to begin at 2: 30 p.m.
