
Lady Netters Post 7-0 Shutout Of Kennesaw State

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team shut down a solid Kennesaw State program by not allowing the visitors to score a point in the match. GWU won by a 7-0 margin.
The Bulldogs picked up the doubles' point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Monica Walser and Jenny Gomez defeated Karen Ammann and Caroline Page 8-3. Kasey Ellis and Carol Pancia edged out Jeni Thomas and Lindsey Whalen 9-8 (7-5). As close as that match was at No. 3, so was the No. 1 position. At No. 1, Mercedes Cobos and Giselle Nakakura narrowly escaped with a 9-8 (8-6) win over Amy Beavers and Laura Kriett.
Despite the loss in the doubles match, Kriett rebounded against Cobos, knocking her off 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 1 position.
The No. 2 spot saw Ellis handily beat Ammann 6-2, 6-4. Walser continued her solid play at the No. 3 slot by taking a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Nakakura.
Gomez breezed past Thomas at No. 4, 6-2, 6-0. Beavers, playing the five spot, made sure she wouldn't lose again, taking down Page 6-1, 6-1.
Pancia shut out Whalen 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 6 position, securing the team shutout of the Lady Owls.
The Bulldogs match originally scheduled for tomorrow afternoon in Cullowhee, NC against Western Carolina has been postponed to April 14 at 1 p.m. due to inclement weather conditions.
