Bulldogs Finish Third in Spring Opener

Charleston, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's golf team opened up their spring season this week, as they competed in the CSU Spring Kickoff Invitational held at the 6,693 yard, par 71 Coosaw Creek Country Club.
The Bulldogs finished third out of 12 teams for the three round, two-day event. GWU shot team combined rounds of 300, 303 and 301 to finish the tournament with a combined score of 904, +52.
Sophomore Blake Palmer led the 'Dogs, as he carded rounds of 69, 75 and 74 for a three-round score of 218, +5 and a fourth-place individual finish. Palmer's first round 69, -2, was the lowest round of the tournament for the Bulldogs.
Freshman Immu Korvenmaa finished tied for 10th overall, as he improved from round to round, shooting a 76, 75 and 73 for a tournament score of 224, +11.
Fellow classmate Andrew Rickard turned in rounds of 79, 78 and 76, to shoot a combined score of 233, +20 that was good enough to place him in a tie for 29th-place.
Junior Geordie Hagerman finished only one stroke back of Rickard, carding a 234, +21 for the event and finishing in a tie for 31st, while senior Joshua Philbeck finished in a tie for 35th with his three-round combined score of 236, +23.
The Bulldogs finished behind host Charleston Southern, who won the tournament with a score of 873, and Campbell who finished second with their combined team score of 879. Winthrop (906) and Radford (908) rounded out the top five.
The men's golf team will continue their spring season in three weeks, March 5-6, when they will compete in the Lonnie D. Small Spring Classic hosted by Campbell University.
