GWU Falls to the Ospreys, 5-2

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team returned to action at home on Monday afternoon, as they continued their Atlantic Sun play facing off with the Ospreys of North Florida. The Ospreys (9-1, 4-1 A-Sun) proved to be too much for the Lady Bulldogs, as North Florida downed GWU 5-2.
The Lady Bulldogs found themselves down 1-0 early, as they lost all three doubles bouts to the visting Ospreys.
However, the GWU tried to bounce back from the early deficit but were only able to pick up two wins in singles play.
Freshman Laura Kriett scored a victory for the 'Dogs at the No. 1 singles position, as she easily defeated Vanessa Sanchez of UNF in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
Sophomore Amy Beavers' win was very similar to Kriett's, as she controlled the match from the start, winning in straight sets over Ina Durcakova of UNF 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot.
The Lady Bulldogs could not pick up another victory, as the Osprey's took the other four singles bouts.
Freshman Kasey Ellis fell at the No. 2 spot to Catalina Casitllo of UNF, 6-2, 6-1, while the Ospreys Florencia Torres dropped junior Monica Walser at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2.
Natalia Sanchez of UNF at the No. 4 spot in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 defeated sophomore Jenny Gomez, while senior Sara Zirnheld lost in straight sets to Danielle Desmarais at No. 6.
The Lady Bulldogs (2-7, 1-2 A-Sun) will return to action on Wednesday, February 28, at 2 p.m. when they will play host to the Bulldogs of UNC-Asheville at the Webb Tennis Complex.
