
Bulldogs Fall to Davidson, 5-2

DAVIDSON, N.C. The GWU men's tennis team battled hard against their neighbor foes in the Davidson Wildcats before ultimately falling to the home team, 5-2. The Wildcats swept the doubles matches and recorded four of the six singles contests to win in men's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Knobloch Tennis Center.
The loss knocks the Bulldogs to 0-3, while the win lifts the Wildcats to 3-1 on the young season.
In doubles play, the Wildcats took all three doubles bouts, scoring the doubles point and taking the early 1-0 lead. At the No. 1 spot, Roberto Vasques and Taylor Ferrier fell in a close match to the Wildcats Ethan Jaffee and Sam Burns, 8-5. At the No. 2 position, the team of Gabe Veiga and Evgeny Slesarev battled hard before falling to Davidson's team of John Bolton and Flaviu Simihaian, 8-6, while the tandem of Kim Ellis and Grant Van Rensburg were downed at the No. 3 spot, 8-5.
In singles play, Gardner-Webb picked up wins from Evgeny Slesarev (6-4, 6-0) and Gabe Veiga (3-6, 6-0, 6-2) at the second and fourth spots, respectively, scoring the only two points on the afternoon for the Dogs.
The Bulldogs will continue their road trip tomorrow afternoon, when they will face off with the Panthers of High Point in High Point, N.C. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
