BOONE, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women posted 16 top-10 finishes
Thursday night at Appalachian State, and senior Katherine Warden
won the 800m run in Boone for the second year in a row.
Warden came in first with a time of 2:19.00, just a second off her
time that won the event last season. She topped second-place Katie
Olerr of UNC Asheville by more than three seconds, with GWU's
Carlene McLean taking third in a time of 2:25.50.
Kayla Morgan took fourth in the 55m hurdles (9.15 seconds) and
Michele Milner captured third in the women's mile - leading a
charge of four Lady Bulldogs in the top 10 for that race. Abby
Callahan (fifth), Bree Tharpe (eighth) and Jessie Poremsky (10th)
rounded out that group for GWU.
Kathleen Hlawatsch finished second in the 500m dash, followed by
Poremsky (third) and Tharpe took sixth in the women's 1,000m
run.
As usual, Gardner-Webb dominated the pole vault, with Kelly Bridges
tying for first with a height of 11'5.75". GWU also had Merissa
Hawkins and Victoria Argus tie for sixth in that event. Bridges'
mark tied her own school record indoors, set prior to the New Year
in Boone.
Caryn Doane took ninth in the women's weight throw and paced a
group of three in the top-10 for Gardner-Webb in the shot put -
finishing seventh with a mark of 11.58m.
Up next for the Lady Bulldogs are the second annual A-Sun Indoor
Championships, set for February 16-17 in Johnson City, Tenn.
