
Lady Netters Drop Liberty 5-2

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Lady Bulldogs won their second straight match on Saturday afternoon as they dropped Liberty University 5-2 in non-conference action at the Webb Tennis Complex on the campus of Gardner-Webb University.
With the win the Bulldogs improve to 4-7 while Liberty falls to 2-4 with the loss.
The Lady Bulldogs picked up the doubles point and an early 1-0 lead as they took two of the three doubles bouts over the Flames of Liberty. The GWU duo of Laura Kriett and Amy Beavers held off the team of Jonita Randolph and Martyna Hanusz to win the match 9-7 at the No. 1 doubles spot. GWU's tandem of Kasey Ellis and Carol Pancia continue their winning ways at the No. 3 position, as they dropped Livia Branco and Daniela Dimas of Liberty 8-4.
In singles action, Gardner-Webb took four out of the six matches as they dominated matches 3-6.
Sophomore Jenny Gomez won at the No. 3 spot in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, downing Waldthausen of Liberty. Fellow classmate Amy Beavers cruised in the first set winning 6-1 before defeating Hanusz of Liberty 6-1, 7-5, at the No. 5 slot.
Not to be outdone, juniors Monica Walser and Carol Pancia also both won in straight sets, as Walser defeated Dimas at the No. 4 spot 6-0, 6-2, while Pancia downed Branco of LU, 7-5, 6-0, at the No. 6 slot.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action tomorrow afternoon, when they will do battle with the Lancers of Longwood University at the Webb Tennis Complex at 12:30 p.m.
