Tate Picks Up Win, But Bulldogs Eliminated From NCAA Championships
March 15, 2007 | Wrestling
In the second consolation round, Tate wrestled in his third match of the day. He went up against Conor Beebe of Central Michigan. Despite hanging tough through the first period, Beebe was able to pin Tate at the 2:38 mark, ending his season.
Tate's victory in the consolation bracket marked just one of two victories by the region that GWU competes in. The other victory came via Liberty's heavyweight.
Fellow redshirt-freshman Dustin Porter, who earned a first-round bye, fell to No. 11 seed Chirs Weidman of Hostra, getting tripped up and pinned 1:09 into the match.
In the consolation round, he went up against No. 6 seed J.D. Bergman of Ohio State, who fell to West Virginia's Jared Villers by an 8-5 count. Porter's chances of advancing in the consolation bracket fell through as he was pinned 1:45 into the match.
Although both student-athletes were eliminated, the Bulldogs, with virtually everyone returning to the line-up, seem primed and ready to make a larger impact at the NCAA Championships in 2008.
