Bulldogs Blank Bison 7-0 in A-Sun Men's Tennis Action

Nashville, T.N. – The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team proved to be too much for the Lipscomb Bison on Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs dominated both doubles and singles action, dropping only one match en route to shutting out the Bison with a 7-0 win.
With the victory the Bulldogs improve to 6-9 and 2-2 in the A-Sun matching both win totals from last season.
The Bulldogs came away with the doubles point as they won at both the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. GWU's duo of Evgeny Slesarev and Gabe Veiga won at the No. 1 spot, defeating Lipscomb's Daniel Hangstefer and David Carrillo 8-3, while Roberto Vasques and Grant Van Rensburg dropped Jeff West and Daniel Carrillo of Lipscomb at the No. 3 slot, 8-5.
In singles action the Bulldogs took all six matches as a number of performers continued their winning streaks.
Senior Gabe Veiga and freshman Grant Van Rensburg each extended their winning streaks to seven on Saturday afternoon, as Veiga won at the No. 4 spot 6-0, 6-2 over Daniel Hangstefer of Lipscomb and Van Rensburg defeated Lipscomb's Josh Cummings in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 at No. 5.
Freshman Evgeny Slesarev continued his winning ways as he once again came back from a first set 4-6 loss to beat Mike Sherman of the Bison 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 at the No. 1 position. The win is Evgeny's sixth consecutive win at the top spot for the ‘Dogs.
GWU's seniors Roberto Vasques and Kim Ellis both won in straight sets on Saturday, as Vasques dropped Jeff West of LU 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2, while Ellis coasted past David Carrillo 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.
Coming off his first collegiate win on Friday afternoon at Belmont, freshman Rafael Altmeyer was riding high as he dropped Colten Jones of Lipscomb 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot.
The Bulldogs will look to increase their winning streak to three on Tuesday, March 20, as they will play host to the Dolphins of Jacksonville at 1 p.m.
