Buccaneers Sink Lady Bulldogs 7-0

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's team entered Tuesday afternoon's A-Sun match with the East Tennessee State Buccaneers on a two match winning streak, but had it abruptly stopped as the Buccaneers blanked the Lady Netter's of GWU, 7-0.
GWU fought hard in doubles action, but ultimately dropped all three matches to their visiting conference foes. At No. 1, the duo of Amy Beavers and Laura Kriett kept the match close, but ETSU's Masha Ilina and Olya Batsula proved to be too much down the stretch as they defeated the Bulldog's duo 8-6. At the No. 2 slot, the Buc's Yevgeniya Stupak and Elena Volobueva 8-2 dropped Monica Walser and Jenny Gomez, while at the No. 3 spot ETSU's Tara Byrne and Vita Moskaliova held of the team of Carol Pancia and Kasey Ellis to win 8-6.
In singles play, the 'Dogs did not fair much better as they fell in all six contests.
Sophomore Amy Beavers had her winning streak snapped by the hands of Volobueva, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, at the No. 5 position, while fellow classmate Gomez fell to Batsula in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.
Freshmen Laura Kriett and Kasey Ellis both fell in straight sets at the top-two positions, as Kriett fell at the No. 1 spot to Stupak 6-0, 6-4, while Ellis lost to Ilina 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 position.
At the No. 4 spot, junior Monica Walser lost to Byrne of ETSU 6-4, 6-1, while fellow junior Carol Pancia fell, in what was arguabley the closest match of the day, to Moskaliova at the No. 6 slot 6-4, 7-5.
The loss puts the Lady Bulldogs at 8-11 overall and leaves them at 3-6 in A-Sun Conference play heading into the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament in mid-April.
The Bulldogs will wrap up the rest of their season in non-conference play on the road, as they will start their four-match road trip at East Carolina on Wednesday, April 4, at 2 p.m.
