Bulldogs Hold On to Finish Fourth in the Lonnie D. Small Classic

Buies Creek, N.C. - The Bulldog men's golf team finished Tuesday's final round at the Lonnie D. Small Spring Classic the same way they started it, as they carded a second round combined team score of 308, +20, to finish the two-day tournament with a 606, +30 and a fourth-place finish.
The Bulldogs finished fourth out of 15 teams, finishing only one stroke ahead of the fifth-place team Longwood University. Campbell University won the tournament with a two-round combined score of 585, +9, only one stroke ahead of second-place Radford University. Elon University finished third with their score of 590, +14.
Sophomores Ryan Bell and Blake Palmer led the way for the Bulldogs, as each finished in the top-20 individually. Bell led the 'Dogs with a 71, -1, on Monday, while Palmer paced GWU with his 75, +3, on Tuesday. Bell finished with a team low two round score of 148, +4, to finish tied for 11th individually. Palmer was consistent over the two-day event, carding a 75, +3, on both days to finish the event tied for 18th place with his score of 150, +6.
Freshman Immu Korvenmaa carded a 153, +9, good enough to end up in a tie for 29th at the conclusion of play, while senior Joshua Philbeck turned in a 76, +4, second round on Tuesday to finish with a 156, +12, and tied for 39th place.
Junior Geordie Hagerman also competed for the 'Dogs at the tournament, carding rounds of 79 and 82, to finish tied for 64th with six other competitors.
The Bulldogs are off to a great start this spring as they have finished in the top-five in both of their tournaments thus far this season.
Gardner-Webb will look to continue their successful play later on this month, when they will compete in the Mimosa University Cup hosted by Appalachian State University on March 28.
