Bulldogs Have Fabulous Friday At Two Meets

CLEMSON, S.C. – School records and personal bests were established by the men's and women's track teams Friday afternoon as student-athletes competed at Clemson and at Appalachian State.
Once again, Cody MacArthur broke the school record that he held in the hammer throw with a winning mark of 53.02m (173'11"). Matt Knippen placed third with a throw of 44.27m while Michael Buckshaw placed fourth with an effort of 42.49m.
Corey Scott was seventh (39.69m) while Brandon Blanton was right behind him with a throw of 39.15m.
In the running events, Paul Steinke was fifth in the 400m hurdles after finishing in 55.72.
On the women's side, Bree Tharpe broke the school record in the steeplechase, crossing the line in 11:58.29 to finish second.
Two other student-athletes garnered personal-best marks. Allye Littrell crossed the line in the 5,000m event in 21:04.35 while junior Elizabeth Maxwell had a toss of 41.04m (134'8") in the hammer throw for her all-time top mark in the event. Teammate Caryn Daane took seventh with a throw of 36.83m.
At the Appalachian State Invitational, the Bulldogs had only one student-athlete competing, Erin Goodrum. He had a solid day, recording a fifth-place and 13th-place finish.
In the 400m, he crossed the line in 52.80 for fifth. In the 200m, Goodrum recorded a time of 24.05 for 13th place.
The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow at the Solid Orange Classic, which is in Clemson, S.C.
