
Bulldogs in a Tie for Fourth-Place After Day One at A-Sun Championships

Waverly, Ga. - The Gardner-Webb men's golf team finished day one at the 2007 Atlantic Sun Men's Golf Conference Championship tournament with a combined team score of 314, +30, at the par 71 Golf Club at Sanctuary Cove in Waverly, Ga.
The Bulldogs team score of 314 place them in a tie with fellow instate A-Sun member the Campbell Camels at fourth-place overall. GWU is only 12 strokes behind team leader North Florida (302). East Tennessee State is in a close second with a team score of 307, while Jacksonville finds itself in third-place after a first round score of 310.
The 'Dogs were led by freshman Immu Korvenmaa on Monday, as he carded a first round score of 76, +5, which was good enough to place him in a tie for seventh-place on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore Ryan Bell and junior Geordie Hagerman finished the day right on the heels of Korvenmaa, as Bell turned in a 78, +7 and Hagerman shot a 79, +8. Bell is currently in a tie for 13th-place overall, while Hagerman will enter play on Tuesday in a tied in 16th.
Senior Joshua Philbeck and sophomore Blake Palmer rounded out the competitors for the Bulldogs on Monday afternoon. Philbeck carded a first-round 81, +10, to put him in a tie for 27th-place overall, while Palmer shot an 83, +12, and finished the day tied for 37th.
Gardner-Webb will look to close the gap on the leaders on Tuesday afternoon, as they will compete in round two of the A-Sun Championship tournament. Tee times are set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
