
GWU Men's Golf Moves into Third-Place Heading into Final Round on Wednesday

Waverly, Ga. - The GWU men's golf team shot a combined team score of 294, +10 on Tuesday afternoon to move them into third-place overall heading into the final day of competition tomorrow.
The Bulldogs 294 second round combined team score was 20 strokes better than their first round team score of 314 turned in on Monday afternoon. With their impressive second round of play the 'Dogs moved from being tied in fourth-place with Campbell University to third-place and one stroke ahead of Campell who remained in fourth-place at day two's end.
Gardner-Webb still trails East Tennessee State, who is in first-place with a score of 585, +17, and second-place North Florida (595, +27).
On Tuesday sophomore Blake Palmer who bounced back from a first round 83 to shoot a 70, one-under par led the Bulldogs. With his combined two round score of 153, +11, Palmer founds himself in a tie for 12th-place overall.
Freshman Immu Korvenmaa, who led the Bulldogs with a round of 76, +5, yesterday, stayed fairly consistent on day two as he carded a second round 77, +6, placing him in a tied for 12th-place along with Palmer with a two round score of 153.
Overall, Bulldog leader is sophomore Ryan Bell who has turned in rounds of 78 and 74 to place him with a two-round combined score of 152, +10, which is good enough to put him in 11th-place on the overall leaderboard.
Like Palmer, senior Joshua Philbeck improved dramatically on day two of play, as he shot a 73, +2, on Tuesday, a whole eight strokes better than his round of 81 on Monday. Philbeck is currently one-stroke back of both Palmer and Korvenmaa with his score of 154, +12 and sits in a tie at 15th-place.
Junior Geordie Hagerman remained consistent on Tuesday, as he turned in a round of 79, his second of the tournament. Hagerman's two round score of 158, +16, puts him in a tie for 27th-place overall.
Gardner-Webb will look to continue its improvement on the final day of play tomorrow afternoon and seal a top-3 finish for the first time since joining the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2002.
