GWU Lady Netters Set For First Round of 2007 A-Sun Championship

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team will enter the 2007 Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Conference Championship tournament on Friday afternoon as the No. 6 seed, its highest seeding ever in the A-Sun Championship tournament.
The Bulldog Lady Netters went 8-13 overall and 3-6 in A-Sun Conference play helping them earn a spot in the post-season conference tournament for the fifth straight year.
The No. 6 seeded Lady Bulldogs will face off in a first round match up with the No. 3 seeded Stetson Hatters who finished the season 11-11 overall and 6-3 in conference action.
In their only regular season match this season the Stetson Hatters defeated the Lady Bulldogs 6-1 in Deland, Fla. on February 24.
Sophomore Jenny Gomez scored the only win for the 'Dogs, as she won at the No. 3 singles position 6-0, 6-7, 6-3. However, five of the six matches were very close until the end, with two of those five matches going three sets.
Gardner-Webb's first round matchup with Stetson will be on Friday, April 20, at 2 p.m. Their match will be held at the tennis courts at Milligan College in Johnson City, Tenn.
