Lady Bulldogs Season Comes to an End in the First Round of the A-Sun Tournament

Johnson City, T.N. – The No. 6 seeded Gardner-Webb women's tennis team had their season come to a close on Friday afternoon, as they fell to the No. 3 seeded Stetson Hatters 4-0 in the first round of the 2007 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship tournament in Johnson City, T.N.
The Bulldogs lost the doubles point and fell behind early as Stetson picked up wins at both the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles slots. GWU sophomore Amy Beavers and freshman Laura Kriett fell at the No. 1 spot to Stetson's Anna Leonenko and Katherine Nowicki 8-6, while at the No. 3 position Kasey Ellis and junior Carol Pancia lost 8-1 to Breanna Atkinson and St. Clair of Stetson.
The Hatter's went on to score the 4-0 win by taking three straight matches in singles play. GWU's First-Team All-Atlantic Sun and All-Freshmen team member Laura Kriett fell at the No. 1 spot 6-0, 6-3 to the Hatter's Valentina Galbarini. Freshman Kasey Ellis lost in straight sets to Atkinson of Stetson 6-0, 6-1, while Samantha Lange of Stetson's 7-5, 6-1 win over GWU's Pancia at the No. 6 slot sealed the victory for the Hatters.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the 2007 season with an overall record of 8-14 and 3-7 in the Atlantic Sun. The eight wins are two more than they had in 2006 and are the most that they have had since moving to Division I in 2002.
